Hummingbird and Fuchsia

Here is a few shots I took from out our window this summer here in Georgia. I just love this photo of a fuchsia plant we bought to entice the hummingbirds. I also love the detail of these close up photo's of a Ruby Throat Hummingbird. I perched on on the table with my camera poised, waiting for the perfect shot! I couldn't get one of the Hummingbird at the fuchsia though, they just zip too fast.

Hummingbirds in the Desert

It was in the desert that we fell in love with hummingbirds. It was where we started to plant things they love and try and get the elusive photo. Here is one mid flight. I believe these are Ana's Hummingbirds.
Sipping at their favorite salvia.
Aren't they just beautiful?

Hummingbird Moth

What is that! Is it a bird? Is it a bug? It's a Hummingbird Moth! Yup a moth! When we first saw one of these we didn't know what in the world it was! We found a drawing of one in a gardening book and that's how we found out what it was. In fact they are very common! There are lots of them in the desert too, and in the evening they come out and zip around to all the nectar flowers.

Our First Garden

I dug though some old photos I have on my computer and found these of our old garden. Oh I miss it! I got tears in my eyes! I loved it there in CA. You can even see the pretty mountains in the back past the house. These are from 21 May 2005!
See that chair poking out behind the hollyhocks? That was my favorite spot to sit and enjoy the garden. I'd also perch there with the camera ready to snap shots of hummingbirds. I got a few really good shots too.
My favorite hollyhock! Old fashioned and rose colored!
This is one of my favorite mini-roses. It's called 'Starina' and it was vigourous! It didn't mind the heat at all, and the color and form were just wonderful.
There's China being the neighborhood watch! I took this photo while at my perch. That salvia on the bottom right, the hummingbirds loved and would drop in for a sip.

Hummingbird

Gerard caught this photo of a hummer mid flight!
